Vanessa Hudgens thinks it's important for young people to watch a wide variety of films.

The Beastly actress spoke to nationwide educational charity and experts in films for youths - FILMCLUB - about the importance of teens broadening the choice of movies they watch and checking out different genres.

"Watching a wide range of films gives you more knowledge," said the 22-year-old.

"It opens your eyes to different aspects of life that you probably wouldn’t normally ponder yourself.

"It’s an amazing creative outlet, it allows you to inspire your mind and think about different things…it’s a getaway. Watching movies is an amazing escape from your present. It allows you to kind of be free."

When it comes to what makes a good teen film - Hudgens admits she's a sucker for a soppy chick flick. Well what do you expect from the star of the High School Musical movies and Beastly!

“Honestly, I think a good romance! It’s so much fun when you get to watch a film that takes you out of your situation and allows you to fully emerge yourself in to a beautiful love story."

Sucker Punch starlet Vanessa Hudgens has opened up about the controversy surrounding her nude photos leak with the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s just silly because I’m a very present person, and that’s the thing that has been so in the past,” she says.

“The fact that somebody keeps bringing up the past is just selfish. I mean, it sucks. I already released a statement the first time it happened. It’s just unfortunate that it keeps reminding people about the past and not the present.”

Hudgens also revealed last week that she found it more embarrassing discussing the nude snaps leak with her lawyers than her parents.

She told London radio station Capital FM: “The more embarrassing thing is talking to the lawyers and attorneys about it but, whatever, you deal.”

Hudgens also touched upon her former relationship with Zac Effron during her Times confab.

“It was interesting,” she said of being in a relationship that was open to public scrutiny. “But we got to a point where it was just like, we just can’t pay attention, because one week we’d be married and then the next week we’d be broken up and the next week I would have a baby. It was just the most obscene things.”

As for the future…

“You really have to stay strong, because times get tough. Especially in this business. It’s a dog-eat-dog world,” she asserts.

Vanessa Wants to Get Inked — With Her Mom

She’s rocked both real and fake tattoos, but Vanessa Hudgens says she’s just getting started on the body art. 

“I will hopefully get more tattoos,” the Sucker Punch star told PEOPLE on Wednesday at the West Hollywood release party of pal Ashley Tisdale‘s DVD, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure. “I’m very obsessed recently. I still only have one, but I’m waiting for one of my friends to go get one so that I can come with, and bring my mom and my best friend.” 

Why would she bring family along for the experience? “My sister is on her way for a piercing, and me and my mom are going to do the tattoos,” she shared. 

Appearing at the bash with what appeared to be a much shorter do, the actress explained, “I started getting cut crazy, but tonight I just tucked it under because I haven’t had time to do my hair this evening. I think I might have it long soon again though for the music festivals and whatnot. But I think it’s fun. I just love changing my look. I get bored with it being stagnant.” 

So which style stars does she turn to when she’s ready for a change? “I like looks like Bianca Jagger and looks from the ’60s and ’70s, like classic movie stars,” she said. “Just interesting, cool, eclectic looks.”

Ashley: I'll Always Be Close To Zac & Vanessa

The High School Musical franchise has come to an end, and Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens recently called it quits. But Ashley Tisdale says she and the former couple will always be the three musketeers.

"We're always there for each other," Tisdale, 25, told PEOPLE of her former castmates Wednesday at the DVD release of her HSM spin-off Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure. "I love being with them. They're so supportive. It's just like a bond. I can't explain it, but they're like a family I've grown up with."

Tisdale says the trio always pick up right where they left off. "We're growing up and we're working on different projects, but we're all super supportive of each other," she says. "They're like my brothers and sisters."

The bond between the three stars, forged beginning with the first HSM in 2006, was evident at Tisdale's Soho House launch party in West Hollywood, where both Efron and Hudgens were all smiles as they came out to support their pal.

Hudgens, 22, rocking a shorter, pinned-up 'do, told PEOPLE she was "feeling great" fresh off a trip to France, where she and her mom "enjoyed eating crepes."

She and Efron, 23, took their turns posing with Tisdale on the carpet, before the three were led to a private area in the back of the venue, where they celebrated with Tisdale's family and other former HSM stars.

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens proved that not all Hollywood breakups have to be ugly. On Wednesday, the duo, who ended their five-year romance in December, both came out to show their support for High School Musical pal Ashley Tisdale's DVD release party in West Hollywood.

Although Efron, 23, and Hudgens, 22, arrived separately on the red carpet for Tisdale's Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure launch, it was anything but awkward once the exes were inside.

"Zac and Vanessa definitely seemed comfortable around each other," one observer tells Us Magazine. "They didn't seem affectionate or romantic at all, but they were totally relaxed and friendly."

Seconds another source: "They both came out to support Ashley. They knew they would both be there and were fine with it. They really are still friends."

Hudgens and Efron weren't the only HSM alum to cheer on Tisdale: Lucas Grabeel and Olesya Rulin also attended. "It was like a High School Musical reunion!" says the first observer.

But they'd be wrong, because the U.S star was out and about in the capital city today, keeping to her scheduled appearances without the tiniest hint of a sore head.

What's more, the 22-year-old gave a lively interview to Kiss FM and posed outside her hotel looking stunning and fresh faced.


Vanessa, who rose to fame in the Disney hit High School Musical, is currently in London promoting her new movie Sucker Punch.

Following the British première earlier in the week, Vanessa took some time to enjoy the party scene here on Thursday night.

She started the night of at the Bocca Di Lupo restaurant in Soho, before heading to Chinawhite and then on to The Box - which has already got itself a reputation as 'Britain's seediest VIP club'.

However the next day she opted for a chameleon-like transformation into a more demure Vanessa.

Sporting a lavender dress with matching eye-shadow, the star looked dainty and chic as she made the rounds on her promotional tour.
